Jurgen is head of the Transaction Tax team and head of the of Grant Thornton in the Netherlands. During his 20 year career, Jurgen has advised clients about their investments in and through the Netherlands. Jurgen has lead a large variety of M&A transactions and tax due diligence projects as well as international tax compliance projects. Jurgen has a broad sector experience servicing clients in the banking sector, in life science technology, the medical sector as well as wholesale trade.

Jurgen studied tax law at the University of Leiden. After finishing his study in 1997, Jurgen started his professional career as a tax lawyer in the International financial tax services team of KPMG in Amsterdam. Jurgen joined the International Tax team of Grant Thornton in 2008.

Tax Netherlands: The hybrid mismatch documentation requirement

On 1 January 2020, the Dutch implementation of the EU Anti-Tax Avoidance Directive 2 (ATAD2) came into effect for tax years starting on or after that date. ATAD2 aims to neutralize hybrid mismatches resulting in situations with a double deduction or a deduction without inclusion. The Netherlands has introduced a new documentation requirement for Dutch corporate taxpayers on the basis of which they substantiate that the hybrid mismatch rules are (not) applicable during each financial year.
