NOW 3.3: application period starts from 6 May

From 6 May 2021 it is possible to apply for the NOW 3.3. In this article you will find the most important requirements to apply for the NOW 3.3.

The application period for the NOW 3.3 will open on 6 May 2021. Until 30 June 2021, it is possible to request an advance payment for the NOW 3.3. This fifth application period for the NOW scheme concerns a wage cost allowance for the months of April, May and June 2021. The conditions of NOW 3.3 are the same as those of NOW 3.2.

NOW: brief summary

From 6 May until 30 June 2021 it is possible to apply for NOW 3.3. To apply for NOW 3.3, employers must experience a drop in turnover of at least a 20% over a three-month period. The first day of this three-month period may start on 1 April 2021, 1 May 2021, or 1 June 2021. The chosen three-month period in 2021 will be compared with the total turnover for 2019 and will be converted to three months.

The loss of turnover is determined at group level. Subsidiaries that suffer a turnover loss of 20% or more can even apply if the business group’s total turnover loss is below this threshold. They must fulfil all general requirements and those for subsidiaries. All conditions for the NOW 3.3 can be found in the table below.

The amount of the allowance for wage costs depends on the drop in turnover and amounts to a maximum of 85% of the wage bill of June 2020.

After applying for NOW 3.3, the UWV/Dutch government pays an advance of 80%. This advance is paid in 3 installments within a period of approximately 3 months. Afterwards you must submit a request for the definitive calculation of the NOW. The definitive allowance is calculated on the basis of the definitive loss of turnover and the final wage bill. If the definitive decrease in turnover is lower than initially estimated, part of the advance must be repaid. If the definitive loss of turnover is higher than estimated, you are still entitled to a supplementary payment.

How to apply?

The UWV is in charge with processing the application. You can apply for NOW 3.3 (in Dutch) for April through June from 6 May until 30 June 2021. Read more on how to apply on UWV (in Dutch).
