Accelerated climate investments in industry (VEKI) grant
The VEKI is a grant scheme for industrial entrepreneurs who invest in proven measures to reduce CO₂ emissions in the Netherlands. The scheme is particularly attractive if you want to make your operations more sustainable, but are faced with high investment costs. The VEKI focuses explicitly on implementation projects and offers a subsidy of approximately 30% to 70% of the additional costs, with a maximum amount of €30 million per project. This maximum grant amount may be exceeded in specific cases, for example for infrastructure projects such as hydrogen connections or CO₂ storage facilities.
Because this scheme is aimed at substantial investments, the VEKI is not a typical sustainability scheme. In the assessment, the grant provider looks at the applied technology and at the coherence between CO₂ reduction, the investment rationale and the economic feasibility of the project. This makes the scheme promising for well‑substantiated projects, but at the same time also a complex process.
Good preparation makes the difference
The VEKI scheme will reopen on 7 May 2026, subject to publication in the Government Gazette. Grant applications can be submitted from that moment and are assessed in order of receipt. It is therefore advisable to prepare the application in good time and with due care. The available budget for this opening round is expected to be €125 million.
In practice, we see that many projects are technically promising, but are nevertheless rejected due to insufficient substantiation or an incorrect interpretation of the conditions. The requirements for CO₂ calculations, payback period and baseline scenarios are strict and must closely align with the scheme’s methodology. This underlines the importance of thorough preparation prior to the opening.
Which conditions do you need to meet?
To be eligible for the VEKI, a number of conditions must be met. The most important conditions are listed below:
- The investment decision is taken after submission of the grant application
- The payback period of the investment is at least five years
- The focus is on technologies with proven effectiveness
- The project activities have not yet started prior to submission of the grant application
- The project is carried out within the period stipulated in the grant decision, usually three years
Where we support you
We help you translate your plans into a strong VEKI application. Together, we assess whether the investment fits within the scheme and build a business case that meets all requirements. By bringing together technology, financial substantiation and the current grant rules in one clear framework, we ensure that your application not only meets the formal requirements, but also convinces.
Because the VEKI is a selective scheme, a realistic assessment of the likelihood of success is of great importance. Our team of specialists is happy to think along with you about the possibilities and assess the feasibility of the intended project.
