Peter advises organisations daily on risk management, governance and compliance, with particular expertise in large-scale transitions and implementations. He has led GRC system implementations at ABN AMRO, BNP Paribas, Fiat Chrysler, Nasdaq and Binck, a company-wide Basel II roll-out in 17 countries for a major bank, and the integration of 150 ABN AMRO and 150 Fortis branches during the merger, with a budget of 75 million euros. “My passion is to turn complex challenges into concrete and understandable results and to achieve them in a purposeful way,” Peter says about his profession, adding that team spirit, quality of people, courage and drive are crucial to him.
After studying Mathematics at TU Delft, which he graduated cum laude with a thesis on Numerical Fluid Dynamics at the intersection of Mathematics and Computer Science, Peter chose entrepreneurship. For nearly twenty years he worked as an independent programme, portfolio and project manager, including as interim IT director at an insurer, before joining CPI Governance in 2016. He is now a partner at CPI, a Grant Thornton Netherlands company, and a trusted sparring partner for executives and risk managers at financial institutions, large corporates and semi-public organisations.
With the emergence of new European regulations, Peter’s role has deepened further in recent years. He intensively supports organisations in implementing, for example, DORA and NIS2, from detailed regulatory mapping to the setup of third-party risk management (TPRM) and boardroom communication. He often plays an active role in the very practice he advises on.
In addition to his implementation work, Peter has extensive experience with cultural change, such as an integrity programme at a major transport organisation based on the Hearts & Minds methodology. He translates regulation and risk management not only into processes and systems, but also into behaviour: how do you ensure that policies genuinely come alive within an organisation. His training at Singularity University underlines this forward-looking perspective on the future of organisations and technology.
Peter is known as an optimist, a trait he applies not only in his work but also in his private life: change is personal and requires perseverance, both in the gym and in the boardroom. This combination of sharp analysis, perseverance and attention to people and culture makes him sought after by executive teams and boards, up to and including CRO level.
Peter has three adult children and lives with his wife in Amsterdam.
