After completing a master’s degree in Labour Law and a master’s degree in Corporate Law at Leiden University, Matthias opted for a practical start. Through various internships in the legal profession and a period at a smaller accountancy firm, he gained inside knowledge of practice. He has now been working at Grant Thornton for several years, supporting Dutch and international organisations in setting up and improving their employment law frameworks.
His expertise covers the full scope of employment law, with a clear specialisation in the legal structuring of flexible deployment. He advises on the hiring of self-employed professionals, temporary agency and secondment relationships, and the policy cycle surrounding hybrid and remote working. In addition, he guides reorganisations and transitions, ranging from role changes and restructurings to both collective and individual dismissal procedures. In the area of employment conditions, he supports harmonisation and adjustments to remuneration components. He also assists organisations with documentation and compliance with the Gatekeeper Improvement Act in cases of incapacity for work and reintegration. Furthermore, Matthias is involved in the employment law aspects of M&A transactions and the contractual recording of employment law arrangements during and after a transaction.
In his approach, Matthias combines clear legal analyses with a pragmatic, people-oriented style. He translates complex rules into concrete steps and clear communication for his clients.
