Grant Thornton Netherlands takes strategic step

Sustainable choice for national growth and international cooperation

Amsterdam and Chicago, May 16, 2025 – Accounting and consultancy firm Grant Thornton Netherlands is joining the multinational, multidisciplinary platform that was established earlier this year by Grant Thornton Advisors LLC in the United States and Grant Thornton Ireland. The platform was created with the support of an investor group led by New Mountain Capital, a growth-oriented investment firm with approximately $55 billion in assets under management.

  • Joining the platform will allow Grant Thornton Netherlands to offer enhanced services to new and existing clients across markets, underpinned by investments in quality and innovation.
  • Grant Thornton Netherlands has 800 professionals across eight Dutch offices. The platform has nearly 13,000 team members in almost 60 offices.
  • The members of the platform remain part of the Grant Thornton International Limited network, which comprises member firms in more than 150 markets worldwide.
  • The acquisition transaction is expected to close in the course of 2025. Financial details are not being disclosed.

Scaling up

Scaling up is required for a sustainable future for Grant Thornton Netherlands. Joining the platform offers Grant Thornton Netherlands the opportunities to realize its ambitious growth ambitions, while maintaining and strengthening the quality, integrity and independence of its audit services. The platform can help Grant Thornton Netherlands to broaden and further specialize the range of services. Additional investments in, among other things, quality, innovation, ICT and employment are necessary for further optimization of the services. Grant Thornton Netherlands remains an attractive employer thanks to challenging opportunities.

The CEO of Grant Thornton Advisors, Jim Peko, will continue to lead the platform, and Marcel Blöte, CEO of Grant Thornton Netherlands will continue to lead his geography. “By uniting with preeminent high-growth firms such as Grant Thornton Netherlands, we’ve established a world-class service provider spanning multinational markets,” said Peko.

“We’re bringing the highest quality and fastest growing firms together into one truly integrated global platform,” said Andre Moura, managing director, New Mountain Capital. “Grant Thornton Netherlands is a perfect example of this — delivering the quality, expertise and industry specialization integral to the world-class client experience we’re creating.”

“We welcome Grant Thornton Netherlands to our expanded platform,” said Steve Tennant, managing partner of Grant Thornton in Ireland. “The Dutch firm brings complementary ambition and talent as we look to extend our capabilities, services and geographic reach to benefit our clients and our people.”

Top 10 market position

Marcel Blöte, CEO of Grant Thornton Netherlands, said: "We want to double our turnover and take a solid top 10 market position, while maintaining our own entrepreneurial culture and qualitative approach. This move will help to fuel our growth, both autonomously and through acquisitions to achieve the necessary scale. I am therefore very pleased that we are becoming part of this multinational platform, which will enable us to respond more flexibly to changes in the market and regulations. At the same time it allows us to offer a more attractive career path for future partners and for a broader group of employees.”

Tjark de Lange, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Grant Thornton Netherlands: “The decision to join this platform is the result of a thorough exploration of multiple strategic options. As part of the platform, Grant Thornton Netherlands can continue to grow and invest more in quality and innovation. The Supervisory Board considers this to be the best step for a healthy and relevant future for the company.”

Governance

The audit practice of Grant Thornton Netherlands will be managed independently, operating under an alternative practice structure, in order to continue to comply with the Dutch Act on audit firm supervision (Wet toezicht accountantsorganisaties). The Board of Directors will continue to exist of Marcel Blöte (CEO), Ronald Houtveen and Bart Jonker.

The advisory process with the Works Council has now been completed. Grant Thornton Netherlands is also in consultation with the Netherlands Authority for the Financial Markets on this matter.

Grant Thornton Nederland was assisted by KPMG , Burggraaf & Hoekstra and Recofise.
